Brooks Collects MASCAC, Co-WACBA Men's Basketball Player of the Week Honor

 

Westfield, MA --- Sophomore Paul Brooks (Arlington, MA) has been selected as Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Basketball Player of the Week and Co-Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Player of the Week for his standout efforts in a 1-2 stretch for Worcester State. 

Brooks averaged 11.7 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.7 blocks which included 12 points and 18 boards in a 70-62 setback against Hood before he added 12 points, 14 caroms and four blocks in a 64-52 triumph over Otterbein, earning a spot on the All-Tournament team at the Christopher Newport Captains Shootout.

En-route to All-Tournament accolades, Brooks established a new Captains Shootout record, gobbling up 32 boards in both contests.

Through 12 games on the season, Brooks has topped the MASCAC in average rebounding (9.8 RPG) and blocks (2.8 BPG) while he is also fifth in the conference in field goal percentage (.523) and eighth in scoring (11.9 PPG).

Among NCAA Division III leaders, Brooks is fourth in the country in total blocks (34) and ninth in average while is caroms are 34th overall and 10th in New England.

Brooks enjoyed a solid first-year campaign that saw him earn MASCAC Rookie of the Year accolades as he finished the season averaging 7.5 points and 5.1 rebounds to go along with 53 blocks in 26 games. Brooks was a three-time WACBA Rookie of the Week during last years run to the MASCAC Tournament semifinals.

Worcester State (3-9) plays twice on the road in the next week starting with Fisher on Tuesday (7 PM) and MCLA on Saturday at 3 PM for their first MASCAC game.
