Brooks Named to MASCAC All-Conference First Team

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's senior center, Paul Brooks (Arlington, Mass.) has been named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference First Team, as announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon.

 

Brooks led the Lancers on both the offensive and defensive courts in the 2016-17 season, averaging 11.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game. He shot 60.4% from the field this season (best field goal percentage in the conference) making 139-of-230 field goals. He also was first in the conference in blocks (69), third in the conference in offensive rebounds (98), and fourth in the conference in overall rebounds (222) this season.

 

During his time at Worcester State, he has totaled 1,141 points, and holds the school's best career field goal percentage at 57.6%, making 517-of-897 field goals. Brooks also holds the record in blocked shots in a single game (8), blocked shots in a single season (91) and holds a career total of 289 blocked shots. He has also marked 865 career rebounds.

 

Brooks, who was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Year his freshman year, has been a part of the MASCAC All-Conference team the past three years. In his sophomore year, he was named to the second team, while his past two seasons he has been a member of the first team.

 

Under the direction of head coach David Lindberg in his 23rd season, the men's basketball team completed the 2016-17 campaign at 10-18 and 6-6 in the MASCAC.

 

The team earned the No. 5 spot in the tournament and downed No. 4 Westfield State in the quarterfinals, and upset No. 1 Fitchburg State in the semifinals. The Lancers then made their first MASCAC title game in the past 11 years, and unfortunately, dropped a 100-82 decision to the No. 2 seeded Salem State.
