McCarthy Named to MASCAC Men’s Basketball All-Conference Second Team

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's sophomore forward Shaun McCarthy (Oxford, Mass.) has been named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's basketball All-Conference Second Team, as announced by the league Wednesday (Feb. 28) afternoon.

 

This past season, McCarthy not only led his team in numerous categories, but also led the conference in points (469), points per game (18.8), points per 40 minutes (27.8), and field goals made (172). He had the second-best shooting percentage in the conference at 60.6% (172-284). McCarthy was 6th in the conference with total rebounds (149) and ninth in the conference with an average of six per game.

 

This season, McCarthy posted a career-high of 34 points in the Lancers' setback to Bridgewater State, registered a career-high 12 rebounds in games against Sage and Framingham State. He also notched five double-doubles throughout the season.

 

Under the direction of 24th year head coach, David Lindberg, the Worcester State University men's basketball team completed the 2017-18 campaign at 3-22 and 2-10 in the league.

 

Shaquan Murray of Salem State was named the MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year, Noah Yearsley of MCLA was tabbed the MASCAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year, and Chris Harvey of Salem State was picked the MASCAC Men's Basketball Champion's Choice Coach of the Year.
