Dion and McCarthy Garner All-MASCAC Recognition

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Worcester State University men's basketball juniors Tyler Dion (Barre, Mass.) and Shaun McCarthy (Oxford, Mass.) have both earned spots on the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Second Team All-Conference, as announced by the MASCAC on Wednesday afternoon.

Dion led the team in scoring in his first season with the Lancers, averaging 15.6 points per game in 24 games. He scored in double figures in 20 of his 24 games, recording a season-high of 33 in a loss to Bridgewater State on February 13, which saw him drain eight 3-pointers. He recorded one double-double on the season, with a 14-point, 11-rebound effort against Baruch on November 14. Dion led the conference with a free throw percentage of 84.3 percent, knocking down 70-of-83 attempts at the charity stripe on the year.

McCarthy finished the year right behind Dion for Worcester State's scoring lead, averaging 15.5 points per game. He knocked down 54.0 percent of his shots taken on the season, and averaged 5.5 rebounds per game on the season, good for fourth on the Lancers. McCarthy recorded three double-doubles on the year, and finished with a season-high 32 points in a win over Becker on December 11. He was named the Worcester Area College Basketball Co-Player of the Week on January 15.

Dion and McCarthy led the Lancers to an 11-15 overall record on the season, an eight win improvement from last season. It is tied for the third-best year-to-year improvement in program history.
