Men's Basketball Stopped by No. 10 Ranked Nichols College 89-53

 DUDLEY, Mass.- The Worcester State University men's basketball team stopped by No. 10 ranked Nichols College by a final score of 89-53 Saturday afternoon at Nichols Athletic Center in non-conference action.

With the loss, the Lancers fall to 2-4 overall on the season, while the Bison improve to 4-0.

The Bison jumped to a 23-9 lead at the 10:05 mark in the game highlighted by a pair of triples from Jaekwon Spencer (Bristol, Conn.). Junior forward Erik Bjorn (Holden, Mass.) led the Lancer defense in the battle and nabbed nine rebounds in the first half, and a game high 15 on the night.

The teams headed to the locker rooms at the half with Nichols up 43-23. Nate Tenaglia (Tewksbury, Mass) hit a last second jump shot to extend the lead to 20. 

The Bison went 16-29 (55.2%) from the field in the first, while the Lancers went 9-37 (24.3%).

A Chris Cardoso (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) three pointer tried to cut the deficit, but were unable to catch up. Tyler Dion (Barre, Mass.) helped lead the Lancer effort in the second half with a pair of treys and grabbed a defensive rebound in the effort.

The Lancer offense improved in the second half with a 29% success rate while Worcester State's defense held the Bison to a 53.1% success rate on their shots.

Dion led the Lancer offense with 11 points on the night, followed closely by Bjorn with nine.

Worcester State returns to action on Tuesday where they take on cross-city rival, WPI at Brissette Court. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
