Men's Basketball Falls to Eastern Connecticut Despite Two Double-Doubles

WILLIMANTIC, Conn.- The Worcester State men's basketball team was clipped 83-65 by Eastern Connecticut State University in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Lancers drop to 2-6 overall on the season. Eastern improves to 3-4.

The first half saw an Eastern advantage led by senior guard Jake Collagan (Wethersfield, Conn.) with 17 points in the opening 20 minutes. Worcester State senior guard, Tyler Dion (Barre, Mass.) contributed to the Lancer efforts with seven points and six rebounds in the opening half. Eastern held a 47-29 lead heading into the locker room at the half.

Worcester State shot even with Eastern in the second half to narrow the margin, but the first half deficit proved too large. Erik Bjorn (Holden, Mass) grabbed 13 points and tallied ten rebounds in the half. Cory Muckle (Westbrook, Conn.) saw all 20 minutes in the second half for Eastern nabbing 13 points in the half.

The Lancers were held to just a 36.8% field goal percentage while the hosts shot for 51.7% to seal the win.

Chris Cardoso (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) contributed 14 points and eight boards to the Lancer effort. Collagan led the Eastern charge with 27 points in the night while Sharown Fowler (Springfield, Mass.) led their defense with ten boards.

Bjorn and Dion were the sole players of the game to grab double-doubles despite the loss.

The Lancers are back in action on Tuesday when they host Lassell College at 8 p.m. Eastern is off until Sunday the 15th when they host Yeshiva University.
