Title: Assistant Coach

Paul Baker begins his second year on the sidelines as an assistant coach in his most recent stint with Worcester State. Baker previously served as the head coach of the Lancers from 1986-89.

From 1999 through 2014, Coach Baker compiled a 223-111 record as the head coach at Northbridge High while also capturing nine Southern Worcester County League Championships in his 15 years at the helm - including their first league championship since 1978-79. Coach Baker also reached the district tournament all but two seasons and in 2011 the Rams captured the Clark and District Championship before falling in the Division 2 state finals.

Under Coach Baker, seven of his teams at Northbridge were awarded the Central Mass Sportsmanship Award.

Before Coach Baker took over as the head man at Northbridge High, he was an assistant coach from 1995-99. Coach Baker also had assistant coaching stints at St. John’s from 1990-93 and he had a one-year stop at Clark University during the 1989-90 campaign, which saw the Cougars make an appearance in the ECAC Division III Tournament.

Following a standout career at Assumption, Coach Baker began his coaching career with a two-year stay at Worcester Industrial Technical Institute Junior College before taking over as the head man at Worcester State. While at WITI, he helped lead his squad to their first winning season  in eight years.

During his stay at Salisbury Street as a collegiate student-athlete from 1982-84, Coach Baker helped lead the Greyhounds to the Northeast-10 playoffs and his 1982-83 squad captured a league tournament championship and placed third in the NCAA Regionals.

In his final year at Assumption, Coach Baker was named team captain, earned team MVP accolades and he was tabbed as the Desautels Award winner for being the top senior student-athlete. His 171 made free throws in 1983-84 are still tied for fifth in a single-season.

Coach Baker was inducted in 2009 into the prestigious New England Basketball Hall of Fame for his outstanding play as a collegian and in high school.
