Dartmouth, MA --- Sophomore Bob Bruso (Auburn,
MA) took home the top prize while senior Nick
Lombardi (N. Grafton, MA) tied for second as the Worcester
State Golf team placed fifth – just 26 strokes off the lead
– at the Hampton Inn Classic hosted by UMass-Dartmouth at
Allendale Country Club.
Bruso, who entered the second round tied for eighth, shot a 38 on
the front nine to take first place with a stroke total of 115 (+7)
as the tournament was shortened due to the rainstorm on Saturday
afternoon. Lombardi tied for second with 116 strokes (+8) with Alex
Bermingham of Trinity.
Junior Dave Urella (Worcester, MA) tied for 40th
(132; +24) while Tim Howard and junior
Mike Leveroni (Arlington, MA) both tied for 53 rd
with a total of 138 (+30) to round out the competitors for
Worcester State.
Trinity (CT) placed first with a two-day total of 474 (+42)
followed by Nichols (487; +55) while Johnson & Wales and Salem
State tied for third place (492; +60). Tufts edged the Lancers
(499) out for fifth with a total of 498 (+25).
WSC will compete again next weekend at Johnson & Wales on
Saturday and Sunday next week before they host the Worcester State
College Invitational next Tuesday.
