Men's Golf 20th Among Division III Teams At NEIGA Championships To Wrap Up Fall

 

Brewster, MA --- Freshman Steven Ferraro (Leicester, MA) carded a 166 (+22) in a tie for 117th to help propel Worcester State to a 35th place finish at the two-day New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships on Tuesday.

This year marked the 79th annual NEIGA Championships - a unique tournament that features teams from all three NCAA Divisions that come to compete over a three-day period at Captains Golf Course.

Led by overall medalist Central Connecticut first-year Monte Mullen's (Manchester, CT) score of 143 on the Starboard and Port course (-1), the Blue Devils to the team crown (597). The Division III Champion was Western New England, who was fourth overall with a score of 616, and paced by Patrick Donoahue (Southington, CT) who fired a 147 (+3).

The Lancers improved their score by 12 strokes on the second day to take home a cumulative tally of 668 for the 20th-best team among Division III institutions as they were just 30 strokes off of the top 15.

Other finishers included junior David Rixham (Northbridge, MA) who tied for 126th (167, +23) while sophomore Jackson Davis (Spencer, MA) equaled 149th (+28). Davis sliced his card by eight strokes as the pair both shot an 82 on the final day.

Freshman Anthony Bement (Attleboro, MA) tied for 176th (187, +43) and classmate Patrick Sharron (Boylston, MA) was right behind in a tie for 179th (188, +44).

The NEIGA Championships wrap up the fall season for the men's golf team.
