Lancers Open Season at MCLA Invitational

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Worcester State University men's golf team opened up the 2016-17 season with a 9th place finish at the MCLA Invitational on Thursday (Sep. 15).

Rhode Island College men's golf team claimed the title with a solid score of 307 at Berkshire Hills Country Club. The Anchormen placed all five players in the 70's to earn the victory.

 

Derek Devereaux (Brunswick, Me.) of Roger Williams claimed the individual title after firing a solid round of 74.  Devereaux played a steady round of even par 35 on the front nine and a two over par 39 on the back for his title.  He birdied the par three seventh hole for his lone birdie against three bogeys.

 

Rhode Island College was led by Drew Quirk (Longmeadow, Mass.) and John Roderick (Hope, R.I.) who each shot a four over par 76 to lead the team.  Austin Cilley (Westerly, R.I.) shot a 77 while Steve Letterle (Cranston, R.I.) and Nathan Patterson (Conway, Mass.) each had 78's on the 6,827 yard par 72 layout.

 

Leading the way for the Lancers was junior Mike Jezierski (Thompson, Conn.) who carded a 79 tied at 9th place.

 

Behind Jezierski was senior Patrick Sharron (Boylston, Mass.) with an 87. Worcester's Kyle Puzzo (Ludlow, Mass.) and Brett Erelli (Lynn, Mass.) followed with scores of 95 and 97, respectively.

 

The Lancers take a two-week break until they travel to the Tekoa Golf Club for the Westfield State Invitational on Sep. 27.
