Men's Golf Jumps Up Two Spots in Round 2 to Finish 11th at Blazer Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's golf team finished 11th after the second round of the Blazer Invitational Sunday afternoon at Ledges Golf Club.

Sophomore Mark Clemente (Holden, Mass.) and freshman Jake Poitras (Harwich, Mass.) were the low shooters for the Lancers on Sunday, each turning in scorecards of 82. Clemente finished as the low scorer for the weekend with a combined 167, while Poitras finished second for the Lancers at 171.

Freshman Brodie Coughlin (North Brookfield, Mass.) finished third for the Lancers, shooting an 87 on Sunday, and finishing the weekend just behind Poitras at 172. Junior Zack Grenon (Uxbridge, Mass.) fired a 90 for Worcester State Sunday to record a 175 on the weekend, while senior Owen Gibbons (Sterling, Mass.) shot a 95 to finish at 195.

The Lancers were one of just three teams in the 17-team field to improve on its score from day one, as the Lancers combined for a score of 341 on day two, three strokes better than the 344 the team recorded on Saturday. On average, the other 16 teams in the field shot 10.56 strokes higher on Sunday than they did on Saturday.

The Lancers will be off until next weekend, when they will play for a spot in next spring's NCAA Championship as they host the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships at Blackstone National Golf Club.
