Men's and Women's Golf Conclude NEIGA Championships

BREWSTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's and women's golf teams each wrapped up the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships on Monday at the Captains Golf Course.

The men's team, playing the Starboard Course, improved its score 30 strokes from yesterday to climb to 20th on the final leaderboard. Sophomore Jake Poitras (Harwich, Mass.) shot the low round for the Lancers with a six-over 78 on the day, with birdies on the par-4 fourth and par-5 seventh holes. Senior Connor Anderson (Raynham, Mass.) finished close behind Poitras with a round of 79 on the day. Senior Brian Poillucci (North Attleboro, Mass.) wasn't far off the pace for the Lancers, shooting an 81.

Rounding out the scores for the Lancers were seniors Mike Manning (Bridgewater, Mass.), with a round of 89, and Zack Grenon (Uxbridge, Mass.), with a round of 96.

Competing as individuals, sophomore Aidan Burke (Westborough, Mass.) shot an 89 for the second consecutive day, while freshman Matt Thurston (Lunenburg, Mass.) turned in a 104.

Sophomore Lindsay Guittarr (Auburn, Mass.) and freshmen Lyle dela Cruz (Braintree, Mass.) and Courtney Prescott (Auburn, Mass.) all competed in the women's tournament as well for the Lancers. Prescott shot Worcester State's low round with a 112.

The tournament concludes the fall season for both teams. The Lancers will play a handful of matches in the spring, with the schedule to be announced at a later date.
