Ice Hockey Blanked By Plymouth State, 6-0

Auburn, MA --- Plymouth State sophomore Josh Woody (Sunderland, MD/Valley Jr. Warriors) netted a pair of goals and added an assist to help lead the Panthers past Worcester State, 6-0, in MASCAC men's ice hockey action this evening at Horgan Rink.

With the win Plymouth State improves to 11-10-2 overall and 9-5-2 in league action while the Lancers fall to 9-12-1 on the year and 5-10-1 in the conference.

The Panthers wasted little time getting on the board as they started off the frame with a four-goal outburst for the early lead.

Freshman Erik Storm (Gothenburg, Sweden/Vaxjo J20 Super Elite) potted his first collegiate goal just 2:42 into the game when he corralled a rebounded shot in front of the net for the 1-0 edge.

Junior Chad Barthelmess (Norristown, PA/Springfield Pics) then lit the lamp midway through the first stanza (10:24) before Woody collected a pair of scores just 13 seconds apart with less than five minutes remaining for their commanding first stanza margin.

Sophomore Zach Fox (Sandown, NH/New England Wolves) made the score 5-0 just 75 ticks into the middle frame when his slap shot from the left dot found the back of the net.

WSU had their chances to get back into the contest with three consecutive power plays from the 4:09 mark to the 11:22 mark, but were unable to cash in. During that span the Lancers rattled off 15 shots including five from freshman Alex DeWitz (Oronco, MN/Helena Bighorns).

Plymouth State added a late goal with under a minute to play by freshman Ian McGilvrey (Omaha, NE/Middlesex Islanders) for the final tally.

After being outshot 18-4 in the first period Worcester State seized control of the pace of play over the final two periods outshooting their opponents by a 30-19 clip which included an effort by doubling up Plymouth State in the middle frame (22-11).

Panther sophomore goaltender Gordon Ceasar (Oak Park, CA/Utica College) did not give an inch as he recorded 34 saves, improved his record to 7-3-2 and recorded his third shutout of the campaign.

Lancer second-year goalie Salvatore Tecci (Franklin, MA/Long Beach Bombers) stopped 31 pucks and saw his record drop to 6-8-1 in the defeat.

Plymouth State was 1-for-4 with the man advantage while Worcester State failed to convert on their four opportunities.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as WSU remains home to take on Westfield State at 4:45 PM and Plymouth State returns home to face-off with Framingham State when the puck drops at 6 PM.
