Ice Hockey Falls In MASCAC Quarterfinals To Westfield State, 1-0

Westfield, MA --- Third-seeded Westfield State junior TJ Powers' (E. Greenwich, RI/Fresno Monsers) flick into the upper right post with 1:15 on the clock in the first period stood up as the game-winning goal in a 1-0 triumph over #6 Worcester State in the MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey quarterfinals this evening.

The Owls (12-13-1) head to second-seeded Plymouth State in the semifinal round on Tuesday. The Lancers end their campaign at 9-15-1 overall.

The game was closely contested as the hosts held the final 42-32 edge in shots on goal. There were also five penalties in the contest with Westfield State killing a five-minute major midway through the middle frame.

Worcester State had their chances in the final minutes of regulation when they pulled sophomore netminder Salvatore Tecci (Franklin, MA/Long Beach Bombers).

Junior Cody Osburn (Sacramento, CA/Fresno Monsters) intercepted the puck twice and junior Stephen Rock's (Tulsa, OK/Idaho Jr. Steelheads) one-timer was stuffed by senior goalie Eddie Davey (Orangeville, Ontario/Abitibi Eskimos).

Tecci (6-10-1) turned aside 41 shots for the visitors while Davey (10-6) stopped all 32 bids he saw on net between the pipes for Westfield State in his third career shutout.
