Stanley Registers Hat Trick In 4-1 Triumph Over Becker At ICFCU Tournament

 

Fitchburg, MA --- Senior Nathan Stanley (Meriden, ID/Idaho Jr Steelheads) recorded a hat-trick and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team as Worcester State defeated Becker, 4-1, in the final round of the IC Federal Credit Union Tournament at the Wallace Civic Center.

With the win the Lancers even out to 1-1 while the Hawks slip to 0-2 in the defeat.

Following a scoreless opening frame, sophomore Nickolas McKee (Bakersfield, CA/Fresno Monsters) put Becker on top 1-0 with 6:28 off the clock.

The Blue and Gold came right back and tied up the score at one apiece two minutes later on a power play goal by Stanley.

Stanley then potted the game-winning tally at the 14:32 mark in the middle frame with some help on the play from sophomore Alex DeWitz (Oronco, MN/Helena Bighorns) and senior Vinny Bohn (Spring Hill, FL/El Paso Rhinos).

To start off the third period, Stanley turned the his first collegiate hat-trick six minutes into the final period for the 3-1 advantage.

Senior Taylor Laneville (Edmonds, WA/Helena Bighorns) put WSU on top by the final score as he sent home an unassisted tally on a short-handed marker with 43 ticks remaining in regulation.

Junior Drew Case (Plano, TX/Northern Cyclones) stopped 24 of the 25 shots he saw on the evening while sophomore Tyler Stepke (Mars, PA/Three Rivers Vengance) had a busy night in the cage, finishing the contest with 49 saves.

WSU outshot their opponents 53-25 as the Lancers did an outstanding job killing five Hawk power play tries.

For his efforts in this weekends action, senior Rich Ledy (Marquette, MI/Soo Thunderbirds) was also honored on the All-Tournament team.

The Blue and Gold continue their season on Thursday with a non-conference road meeting with Western New England at 7:10 PM. Becker opens ECAC Northeast action next Sunday against the same Golden Bears at home in a 1:40 meeting.
