Ledy Paces Ice Hockey In 2-2 Overtime Draw With Western New England

Springfield, MA --- Senior Rich Ledy (Marquette, MI/Soo Thunderbirds) registered two goals – including a late marker with 8:02 off the clock in the third – to help lead Worcester State to a 2-2 tie with Western New England this evening in non-conference hockey action.

Ledy put the Lancers (1-1-1) on top 1-0 with 3:54 left in the opening frame off a solid cross from classmate Taylor Laneville (Edmonds, WA/Helena Bighorns).

The Golden Bears (0-1-1) responded with the only goal scored in the second when junior Chris Lembo (Springfield, MA/Springfield Jr Pics) lit up the lamp for the hosts just before time expired in the stanza.

Western New England took over the 2-1 advantage early in the final period on an unassisted tally by sophomore Dana Genord (Grand Blanc, MI/New Hampshire Monarchs) at the 3:55 mark.

Ledy scored his second goal of the contest over four minutes later to tie up the game, 2-2. He caught a deflected shot by sophomore Alex DeWitz (Oronco, MI/Helena Bighorns), who was credited with the helper on the play.

Both squads had their chances in the final 10 minutes of regulation with one power play each, but neither found the back of the net.

In the extra session, the Golden Bears were whistled for a tripping penalty to give the Lancers an extra man on the ice. WSU peppered the net with three shots on goal, however, senior Tim Carr (Pine Bush, NY/New Hampshire Monarchs) turned all three aside to preserve the draw.

WSU finished with the 30-22 edge in shots and the 5-0 margin in the overtime period. Freshman Tyler Fallica (Coram, NY/Ogden Mustangs) stopped 20 in the tie as Carr finished with 28 saves.

Neither did well on the power play with the visitors finishing the contest 0-for-6 while WNE was 0-for-4.

Both squads kick off their respective conference schedules on Veterans Day affairs on the road. Worcester State travels to UMass Dartmouth for a 7 o'clock game and Western New England heads to Becker for a 4 PM meeting.
