WORCESTER, Mass. - The Assumption College Greyhounds (9-11-4) defeated the Worcester State University Lancers (6-16-1) Tuesday Night by a score of 4-3 after two straight Power Play goals from Assumption's Brandon Bete (Greenfield, Mass.) late in the third period.

After a scoreless first period, the Greyhounds opened up the second with a quick goal just under four minutes in from Alex Erban (Attleboro, Mass.). Less than two minutes later Worcester State would retaliate with a goal from Alex Pommerville (Macedon, NY) and would keep that tie for almost seven minutes. At 12:16 of the second, Assumption took back the lead with a goal by Mac Carnes (Farmington, Conn.) and would once again lose that lead just over a minute later. Mike Moran (Milford, Mass.) tied up the game late in the second and would bring the momentum with the Blue and Gold into the second intermission.

Unlike the second period, the Lancers were the first ones to attack in the third frame. Worcester State took full advantage of their power play and continuously put shots towards the Assumption goal. Finally, Worcester State's Brian Allen (Brookfield, Conn.) attacked a loose puck in the crease and buried the go-ahead goal. The Lancers had all the momentum until a five minute major penalty changed the possession game. While on the five minute penalty kill the Lancers gave up the tying and go-ahead goals. After Bete scored his first on the power play, he came up huge with the winning goal to follow that. After a hard slap shot from the point the puck took a deflection out in front of the goal and landed just inside the left post. Bete's second goal would make the score 4-3 and prove to be the winning goal.

Both teams took advantage of the power play on the evening with the Greyhounds going 2-for-3 (66.7%) and the Lancers went 1-for-5 (20.0%).

Assumption College's Nick Commesso (Marshfield, Mass.) registered the win for the Greyhounds, as he improves to 8-5-2 on the season. Worcester State University's Tyler Fallica (Coram, NY) took the loss for the Lancers, dipping to 2-1-0 on the season. Worcester's Drew Case (Plano, Texas) tallied up 31 saves in 57:54 minutes played, while Commesso had a game-high 37 saves on the evening.

Worcester State hosts their last game of the season on Saturday (Feb. 20) where they will match up with Plymouth State at 7:00 p.m. for senior day at the Hart Recreation Center. Assumption College is on the road for their last regular season game where they will face Stonehill College at 7:30 p.m., also on Saturday.
