Worcester State Defeated by Southern New Hampshire, 4-2

HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire men's ice hockey team defeated Worcester State 4-2 in a Tuesday (Nov. 22) night matchup at the Ice Den Arena.

 

Southern New Hampshire jumped off to a 2-0 lead in the first period when they capitalized on two power play opportunities as the Lancers saw a total of 19 minutes in the penalty box in that stanza. The Penmen's Jay Sylvia (Acushnet, Mass.) put them up first on assists from Kyle Valliere (Goffstown, N.H.) and Joe Collins (Mansfield, Mass.). The next goal followed eight minutes later when Chris Moquin (Hoocksett, N.H.) and Valliere connected with Griffin Rogers (Sanbornton, N.H.) for the 2-0 lead.

 

The Pennmen added to their lead in the 17th minute of the second period, advancing the score to 3-0. Worcester State's starting goaltender, Tyler Fallica (Coram, N.Y.) concluded his play in net with 36:19 minutes and a total of 12 stops on goal. Relief netminder, Josh Reinstein (Woodland Hills, Calif.) saw his first collegiate minutes in goal late in the second period, and stopped nine of eleven shots in 21:21 minutes played within the last two periods.

 

Worcester State reached the board in the third minute of the third period when freshman Khalil East (Los Angeles, Calif.) netted his first collegiate goal on a pass from sophomore Patrick Germain (Auburn, Mass.). Southern New Hampshire bounced back and put their lead back at three four minutes later.

 

Worcester State slipped one more through Southern New Hampshire's goaltender, Ryan Slatky (Manchester, N.H.) four minutes before the end of regulation, as Mike Moran (Milford, Mass.) tallied his third goal of the season on assists from Alex DeWitz (Oronoco, Minn.) and Cody Slocum (Temecula, Calif.).

 

The Lancers take a week break and resume play next Tuesday (Nov. 29) when they host Assumption in a cross-town matchup at the Recreation Center on the campus of Holy Cross.
