Palmer Scores Game-Winner in Lancers’ 3-2 Win over Assumption College

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's Mike Palmer (Grafton, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in the 14th minute of the third period to lead the Lancers to a 3-2 victory over Assumption College Tuesday evening inside the Buffone Arena.

Despite the win for Worcester State, the Greyhounds outshot the Lancers 52-28 throughout the entirety of the game.

The only period the Lancers outshot Assumption was in the first, as Worcester State held a 14-11 advantage. However, the Greyhounds were the first to reach the scoreboard when Cam Laughlin (Natick, Mass.) scored 10:34 into the game on assists from Enfield, Conn. natives Stephen Picard and Sam Kelly.

Worcester State knotted the score up in the second frame when Spencer Lawson (Milford, Mass.) fed the puck to Alex DeWitz (Oronoco, Minn.) to pop into the back of the net 10:32 into the period. Just a minute and a half later, the Lancers took their first lead of the game when Mike Moran (Milford, Mass.) scored on an assist from Palmer. It wasn't long after the score saw another tie when the Greyhounds converted a power play in the 15th minute of the same period. Assumption's Dante Tomassini (N. Branford, Conn.) scored on helpers from Mike Sorenti (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) and Brian Farrell (Island Park, N.Y.) on the power play.

The score remained tied for the remainder of the second stanza and well into the third. It wasn't until 13:51 into the third period that Worcester State's Palmer scored, what proved to be the game winner, following touches from DeWitz and Moran. The Greyhounds did not let up and fired off 22 shots in comparison to Worcester's four in the period, however, Worcester State's goaltender Tyler Fallica (Coram, N.Y.) stopped all shots to kill Assumptions' three power plays and seal the win for the Lancers.

Fallica turned away 50-of-52 (96.2%) shots on net in the win. Assumptions netminder, David Zulauf (Rochester, Mich.) suffered the loss in a 25-save performance.

Next up, the Lancers travel to Plymouth State on Saturday (Feb. 18) before returning home for the regular season finale and senior night next Tuesday (Feb. 21).
