Men’s Ice Hockey Skates Past Framingham State, 7-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University men's ice hockey team saw a complete-team effort in the Lancers' 7-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) win over the visiting Framingham State Rams in a Thursday evening matchup.

 

THE BASICS

1ST PERIOD

The Lancers won the opening faceoff took it down the ice and scored when Cody Weaver (Downers Grove, IL) sent in a long strike from the point with Mike Moran (Milford, Mass.) and Matthew Manning (Novi, Mich.) assisting just 23 seconds into the game. The hosts scored again three minutes later when Tim Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.) scored a shorthanded goal on an assist from Nick Patullo (Doylestown, Pa.). Framingham State cut the Lancers' lead in half 15:08 into the frame as Brandon Hamner (Waltham, Mass.) sent one home from Matt Siegel (Syracuse, N.Y.).

 

2ND PERIOD

The Lancers pushed far ahead from the Rams in the second period as Manning, Erik Pritchard (Cave Creek, Ariz.) and Kyle Griffin (Marlborough, Mass.) scored within a 6-minute frame mid-way through the period.

 

3RD PERIOD

Ahead 5-1 going into the third period, Worcester State extended the lead as Andrew Etheridge (Burrillville, R.I.) posted an unassisted goal 5:56 into the third frame. Worcester State's MASCAC player of the week and D3hockey.com weekly honoree, Moran, concluded the evening with a goal on a pass from Brandon Wedoff (Downers Grove, Ill.).

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Five Lancers registered two points apiece in the contest. Weaver, Manning, Drevitch, and Moran each had a goal and an assist, while Pommerville notched two assists in the win.
  • The Lancers controlled the pace of play outshooting the Rams 44-to-14.
  • Worcester State was 0-for-4 on power play, while the Rams were 0-for-3.
  • Josh Reinstein (Woodland Hills, Calif.) made 13 saves in net for the Lancers. Greg Harney (East Haven, Conn.) turned away 24 shots for the Rams before being relieved by Adam Calabrese (Philadelphia, Pa.). 
  • The Lancers served Framingham State its first loss of the season, and remain undefeated at 4-0 and 2-0 in the league.
