Ice Hockey Dealt 2-1 Loss in Overtime to Franklin Pierce

WORCESTER, Mass.- The Worcester State University men's ice hockey team was dealt an overtime loss on Friday night against the Franklin Pierce University Ravens at Worcester Ice Center.

With the loss, the Lancers are now 1-2 and the Ravens move to 2-1.

The first period was a battle of defenses with neither team able to put one between the pipes. The Lancers outshot the Ravens 15-3 in the first twenty minutes but were unable to convert.

Heading into the second period the Lancers were looking to capitalize. Will Ahearn (Charlestown, Mass.) earned his second goal of the season after being fed the puck by Kyle Hater (Helena, Mont.) right in front of the net to put Worcester State up 1-0.

With 6:48 remaining in the third period the Ravens were able to tie the score up 1-1 when Sean Crowley (Sandown, N.H.) managed to sneak one into the net. Cameron Shepardson (Albany, N.Y.) and Chris Stevenson (Arvada, Colo.) were credited with the assist.

Neither team was able to pull ahead during regulation so the teams headed to overtime. Franklin Pierce outshot the Lancers 6-1 during overtime and in the seven minute mark Stevenson put one between the pipes to take the win for the Ravens. Crowley and Jonathan Busolin (Goose Creek, S.C.) were credited with the assist on the game winning goal.

For Franklin Pierce, Ian Wallace (West Islip, N.Y.) had a strong night earning 34 saves and moving his record to 2-1. Josh Reinstein (Woodland Hills, Calif.) recorded 20 saves over the course of the night, the loss puts him at 1-2 for the season.

The Lancers play next on Thursday, November 8th as they travel to Framingham State. The puck is set to drop at 7:40pm. Franklin Pierce is set to host St. Anslem on Tuesday, November 6th at 7:30pm.
