Ice Hockey Clips Stonehill

WORCESTER, Mass.- The Worcester State University men's ice hockey team won their last home game of 2018 against Stonehill College Skyhawks on Tuesday evening at Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Arena.

With the win the Lancers close the fall semester 6-5-0 (3-3-0 in MASCAC play). The Skyhawks fall to 3-8-0 (1-4-0 in NE-10 play).

Matthew Manning (Novi, Mich.) scored his fifth goal of the season on a power play goal off an assist from Tim Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.) to open up scoring in the first period.

Just over three minutes into the second period Ryan James (Katy, Texas) opened up the scoring for the Lancers. A rebound came off Stonehill goalie, Billy Palmer's (Cranston, R.I.) and set CJ Buckingham (Pembroke, Mass.) and Max Roth (Wilmette, Ill.) for the assists.

Later in the second period Christopher Page (Winthrop, Mass.) had his first goal of the season off an assist from Connor Collier (Madison, N.J.). But with just under a minute left in the second period Evan Scheiber (Macon, Ga.) and Manning setup Mitch Purdie (Peterborough, Ont.) to send one in to the back of the net to put Worcester State up 3-1 to head into the final period of play.

Jack Hall (Selburne, Vt.) opened up scoring quickly in the third period for the Skyhawksk off of an assist from Nicholas Godin (New London, N.H.) and Cameron Wright (West Dummerston, Vt.). With the goal the Lancers' lead was cut down to 3-2.

Buckingham put up an insurance goal on a power play off of assists credited to Sean Gavin (Galena, Ohio) and Andrew Etheridge (Burrillville, R.I.). On an attempt to come back, Page put one in the back of the net for the Skyhawks, which proved to not be enough to overtake the Lancers.

Aaron Callan (South Lyon, Mich.) had 23 saves in the Lancers win. Billy Palmer (Cranston, R.I.) of Stonehill College picked up 26 saves despite the loss.

The Lancers are off until the new year when they will host Plymouth State on January 5. The conference matchup is set to start at 6:50 p.m. Stonehill is also off until 2019 when they open up the new year hosting Johnson & Wales on January 5 with a 5:10 p.m. start time.
