Ice Hockey Upends Anna Maria, 4-2

AUBURN, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's ice hockey team defeated Anna Maria on Thursday evening, 4-2 in non-conference action at Horgan Arena.

With the win, the Lancers improve to 9-6-0 overall on the season. The AMCATS fall to 4-14-4 overall.

Anna Maria took the early advantage with a tally from Quinn Tucker (Hancock, N.H.) on an assist from Connor McIntosh (Spokane, Wash.). Evan Schieber (Macon, Ga.) tied the game back up for the Lancers just over halfway through the first period. Sean Gavin (Galena, Ohio) and Matthew Manning (Novi, Mich.) were credited with the assists.

Connor McIntosh (Spokane, Wash.) put the AMCATS back on top 2-1 with a power play goal at the end of the first period. Jack Sitzman (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Nick Kukuris (Littleton, Colo.) were credited with the assist.

Worcester State wasted no time in tying the score back up 2-2 when Mitch Purdie (Peterborough, Ont.) put one into the back of the net 23 seconds into the second period. Manning and Schieber worked together to feed Purdie the puck.

The Lancers took the lead when Nick Pennucci (Worcester, Mass.) netted the puck unassisted for his first goal of the season.

An empty net goal from Henry Bruckner (Franklin, Mass.) solidified the Lancer win with just 33 seconds remaining in the game.

Worcester State goaltender Brendan Bishop (Charlotte, N.C.) recorded his first win of the season, picking up 23 saves in the night. Julius Huset (Oakdale, Minn.) also grabbed 23 saves despite the loss.

Next up, the Lancers will host Westfield State in a conference matchup on Saturday evening. The puck is set to drop at 5:40 p.m. The AMCATS head to Amherst College on Saturday for a 3 p.m. faceoff.
