Men's Ice Hockey Doubles Up Becker on Opening Night

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's ice hockey team opened its 2019-20 season in style Friday night, defeating rink-sharing rival Becker College 4-2 in non-conference action at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.

With the win, Worcester State improves to 1-0-0 on the season. Becker drops to 0-1-0.

Worcester State freshman Kevin Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.) opened the scoring for Worcester State with 5:31 remaining in the first period, as he took a Matthew Manning (Novi, Mich.) feed off the half boards and fired a one-timer past the glove of the Becker goalie for a 1-0 lead.

After Becker tied the score eight minutes into the second, Drevitch put the Lancers back on top at the 12:04 mark, off a perfect feed from his older brother Tim Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.). Manning earned a secondary assist on Kevin Drevitch's second goal of the evening.

Becker again had a quick answer just 1:29 later, but Nick Pennucci (Worcester, Mass.) put the Lancers ahead for good on a wrister through a screen with exactly two minutes remaining in the second.

Brendan Ronan (Saugus, Mass.) scored into an empty net for the Lancers in the final minutes of the contest, solidifying Worcester State's 4-2 win.

Worcester State will turn around quickly seeking win number two on the season, travelling to Saint Anselm for a 4 p.m. puck drop on Saturday afternoon.
