Men's Ice Hockey Blanked by Salem State

SALEM, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's ice hockey team was blanked 3-0 by Salem State University Thursday evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Rockett Arena.

With the loss, Worcester State drops to 4-4-1 on the season and 3-2-0 in MASCAC play.

The teams were level in shots in the opening 20 minutes at 10-10, but the Vikings netted the only two goals of the period to take a 2-0 lead at the end of one.

Worcester State had the best chance of the second period on a Kevin Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.) breakaway from the red line in, but Salem goalkeeper Sean Cleary turned away the freshman with the blocker to maintain the shutout. Worcester State outshot the hosts 19-8 in the middle frame.

The Lancers continued to pour it on in the third with an 18-5 shot advantage, but still couldn't put one past Cleary. Salem added an empty netter with just under a minute to play to clinch the victory.

Cleary finished with 47 saves to earn his second win of the season, while Worcester State's Josh Reinstein (Woodland Hills, Calif.) made 20 saves in the loss.

Worcester State will be back in action on Saturday evening with an 8 p.m. puck drop against Fitchburg State at the Worcester Ice Center.
