NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Worcester State University men's ice hockey team fell short in its first contest of 2020, falling 4-1 to Connecticut College Tuesday evening at Dayton Arena.
With the loss, Worcester State drops to 5-6-1 on the season.
Worcester State conceded the game's first goal just 25 seconds into the contest, and the Camels wouldn't let their foot off the gas the rest of the night. The hosts would extend their lead to 2-0 five minutes later, and would carry the two-goal edge into the first intermission.
After the Camels extended their lead to three just under seven minutes into the second, before the Lancers scored their lone goal of the contest. Junior captain Matthew Manning (Novi, Mich.) cleaned up a rebound for a power play goal just past the midway point of the period. Freshman Kevin Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.) and sophomore Nick Pennucci (Worcester, Mass.) were each credited with assists on Manning's tally.
Connecticut College responded with their fourth goal of the night to go back ahead by three less than two minutes later, which would serve as the game's final tally.
Worcester State goaltender Josh Reinstein (Woodland Hills, Calif.) made 26 saves in the loss, allowing four goals against. Newcomer Nevin Tardif (Dunstable, Mass.) came into the contest in relief, and turned aside all 15 shots he faced.
The Lancers will return to the ice on Saturday with a MASCAC matchup against Westfield State at the Worcester Ice Center. Puck drop is slated for 7:10 p.m.
