Whitson Tabbed Co-MASCAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week

Westfield, MA --- Senior Brendan Whitson (Auburn, MA) has been selected as Co-MASCAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week for helping pace Worcester State to a 1-1 record on the week.

Whitson registered seven points with three goals and an assist which included a pair of tallies and a helper in a 4-1 conference win over Mass Maritime to go with one marker in a 2-1 setback against regionally-ranked Western New England.

The victory over the Buccaneers enabled the Lancers to move into the top spot with an unbeaten record in league play (3-0-1) at the halfway mark of their MASCAC slate.

Whitson, who missed four games this season due to an injury, has come up in the clutch for the Lancers with five goals and one assist in eight contests – including at least one point in four out of his last five starts. As of this past week, Whitson is tied for third in the MASCAC in goals and he is tied for fourth in points (11).

Last season, Whitson led the Lancers in goals (9), assists (5) and points (23) after transferring from Nichols in his junior semester. In just two seasons while wearing a Blue and Gold uniform, Whitson is currently tied for 14th WSU's all-time scoring list (34 points).

Whitson shared the MASCAC weekly honor with goalkeeper Aiden Hanratty of Fitchburg State who currently leads the NCAA Division III in save percentage (.951).

Worcester State is currently 5-3-4 overall and will play twice in the upcoming week. They head to UMass Boston tomorrow for a 3:30 matchup before ending the week with a home meeting against Salem State at 12 PM.
