Venne Named Co-MASCAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Westfield, MA --- Senior Kyle Venne (Ludlow, MA) has been tabbed Co-MASCAC Player of the Week for his standout efforts in a victory over Salem State this past weekend.

Venne tallied the game-winning goal in the 80th minute to help lift the Lancers to a 1-0 win over the Vikings to stay atop the MASCAC standings in a tie for third place with a 2-1-2 record.

Through 14 games on the campaign, Venne at center back has helped anchor a defense that is second in the league in goals against average (1.11 GAA) and goals allowed (14). In his 13 starts, the Lancers have blanked seven opponents – including three in conference play.

Since transferring from Springfield Technical Community College, Venne has been an impact player, earning All-MASCAC Second-team accolades for his play on the back line during the 2012-13 season as he helped lead the Blue and Gold to the conference tournament quarterfinals.

He shares this week's MASCAC weekly honor with junior Connor Murtagh (Walpole, MA) of Bridgewater State.

Worcester State will play two matches in the next week starting off with UMass Boston at home on Wednesday at 7 PM followed by a road contest on Saturday at Salem State in an 11 AM battle.
