WORCESTER, Mass. – After Mitchell College tied the score up at 2-2 in the second half, Worcester State's Jacob Jess (Douglas, Mass.) and Ryan Kinsella (Wilmington, Mass.) each registered a goal to lift the Lancers over the Mariner 4-2 in Saturday afternoon's contest at Coughlin Stadium.

Worcester's Matthew Dent (Ludlow, Mass.) started the scoring for the Lancers in the 30th minute when Mitchell College committed a foul and permitted Eric Davis (Wilmington, Mass.) a free kick from 50 yards out central. Davis boosted the ball in the air for Dent and Mitchell College's goalkeeper, Anthony Drake (Wethersfield, Conn.) to scuffle for the ball. Dent got a head on the ball, and forced the ball into the net for the 1-0 advantage.

The Lancers struck again 10 minutes later when a hand ball inside the penalty box resulted in a Worcester State penalty kick. Freshman midfielder, Matthew Stabell (Acushnet, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal as he blasted the ball to the lower left side of the mesh to put the Lancers up 2-0.

The second half took a turn when Mitchell College scored two goals in the 60th minute to knot the game at 2-2. Mitchell's first goal was scored by TJ Condon (N. Stonington, Conn.) who found a clear shot 25 yards out on the right side, and drilled the ball into the net to cut the Lancers' lead in half. Not even 15 seconds later, the Mariners' duo of Andrew Nigro (E. Granby, Conn.) and Christian Tomaj (Stamford, Conn.) forced Worcester's keeper, Jason Barrett (Spencer, Mass.) out on the play, from where Nigro placed the ball in the net to draw the score at 2-2.

It wasn't until the 76th minute that Worcester State took back to the lead on a goal from Jess as George Siotis (Oxford, Mass.) tapped the ball to him following a Dent throw-in from the right side.

Six minutes later, the Lancers tallied another goal as Andre Ipojuca (Saugus, Mass.) crossed the ball from the left corner to Kinsella who nailed the ball in the back of the net for the 4-2 gain.

Mitchell College had another chance of a goal in the 87th minute when Tomaj took a shot from the right side and bounced off Worcester's goalkeeper for Zavier Veliz (New London, Conn.) to take another toll at it. Though, Barrett stored the ball and registered his fourth save on the day.

Barrett (1-0) earned his first win of the season, while the Mariners' Seth Strader (Preston, Conn.) suffered his second loss of the season in a six-save second half performance.

Next up, Worcester State (1-1) hosts Johnson State in a 4:00 p.m. matchup on Wednesday (Sep. 14), while Mitchell College (0-3) hosts Mount Ida on the same date.
