Lancers Shutout Blazers, 6-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Worcester State University's sophomore forward Bryan Brasil (Williamsburg, Mass.) scored two goals in the Lancers' 6-0 shutout win over the Elms College Blazers Wednesday (Sep. 21) evening at Leary Field.

 

Just two minutes into the game, the scoring began as junior forward, Jacob Jess (Douglas, Mass.) registered a goal off a penalty kick. After a foul on Elms awarded a free kick to Worcester State, on the ensuing kick into the box, a Lancer player dove out of the way of the kick, which hit off a Blazer defender's hand, resulting in a penalty kick for the Lancers. Jess beat Elms freshman goalkeeper Tyler Graves (Monson, Mass.) to the left side, staking the Lancers to a 1-0 lead.

 

The score advanced to 2-0 in the 17th minute when Worcester State's junior Andre Ipojuca (Saugus, Mass.) launched a cross towards the front of the net, which deflected of a Blazer defender and past Graves.

 

The Lancers upped the score to 3-0 11 minutes later when George Siotis (Oxford, Mass.) crossed the ball and Brasil headed home the service to hand the Lancers a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

 

Following the intermission, the Lancers added to their lead in the 67th minute when Jess fed Etjon Rapi (Worcester, Mass.) the ball, who then finished the shot (4-0).

 

Brasil recorded his second goal of the night in the 85th minute when he put back a shot off an Elms College goalkeeper save (5-0).

 

Just six seconds before the clock ran out, Worcester's Cashios Okyere (Worcester, Mass.) scored his first goal in a Worcester uniform on a header from Josh Pimentel's(Hudson, Mass.) corner kick, resulting in a final score of 6-0.

 

Worcester State's freshman goalie and recent Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's soccer rookie of the week, Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) marked his second collegiate shutout in a three-save performance.

 

On the opposing end, Graves was tagged the loss as he faced 12 shots on goal, and saved six for a .500 save percentage. 

 

The Lancers held the advantage in all categories, as they outshot the Blazers 21-13 and held a 7-1 margin in corner kicks.

 

Next up, Worcester State (3-2) hosts Framingham State on Saturday (Sep. 24) in a 12:00 noon conference game.
