Worcester State Blanked by Rhode Island College, 3-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island College's Komla Dogbey (Providence, R.I.) scored three goals for a hatrick to lead the Anchormen to a 3-0 victory over the visiting Worcester State Lancers in Wednesday afternoon action.

 

With the win, the Anchormen improve to 7-3-1 on the season, while the Lancers slip to 4-5.

 

Just 2:29 into the game, the Anchormen took the lead when Dogbey headed the ball into net off a Kevin Tay Munoz (Providence, R.I.) corner kick. The remainder of the second half remained at a 1-0 score as both teams played key defense and the Lancers' keeper, Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) stopped four shots, while the Anchormen's Chris Moura (Rumford, R.I.) saved three.

 

Rhode Island College came through with the second goal in the 48th minute when Dogbey beat his defender following a pass from Dennis Vasquez (Providence, R.I.). The two connected again in the 74th minute to set the score at 3-0, which would prove to be the final score of the night.

 

Rhode Island College held an 18-8 advantage in shots, and a 4-2 margin in corner kicks throughout the night. Our of Worcester State's eight shots, five were on goal. The five on goal came from Bryan Brasil (Williamsburg, Mass.) with two, Yasin Ahmed (Worcester, Mass.), George Siotis (Oxford, Mass.), and Zach Rodas (Douglas, Mass.) with one apiece.

 

Worcester State's keeper, Guilmette, suffered his third loss of the season as he registered a five-save performance in the 90 minutes played.

 

The men's soccer team's next matchup is on Friday (Oct. 7) when they travel to MCLA for a 6:00 p.m. game time.
