WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's junior forward, George Siotis (Oxford, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to lead the Lancers to a 2-0 shutout over the visiting Westfield State Owls Friday evening in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup at John Coughlin Field.

The first goal of the game came in the 26th minute when Worcester State's Eric Davis (Hudson, Mass.) took a free kick from 40 yards out central. After the ball scrambled inside the goalie's box, Siotis found the ball at the 10 yard marker and tipped the ball over Westfield's defense, landing in into the goal for the 1-0 lead.

Siotis struck again in the second half following a shot from Bryan Brasil (Williamsburg, Mass.) and gave the Lancers the 2-0 lift to eventually result in the win over the Owls.

Worcester State outshot Westfield State by a margin of 17-8, though, Westfield held the advantage in corner kicks 5-3. Out of the eight shots Worcester held Westfield to, six of them came in the second half as the Owls persisted, however, struggled to place the ball on net. The sole shot on goal for the Owls came from Zach Carlson (Fall River, Mass.) early on in the first half.

Worcester State's keeper, Jason Barrett (Spencer, Mass.) earned his fourth win of the season in a one save performance, while the Owls' keeper, Marc Patnaude (North Andover, Mass.) generated five saves and suffered the loss in the 90 minutes played.

The Lancers return to action next week when they travel to both Pine Manor and Becker on Oct. 18 and 20, and then return to MASCAC play on Saturday (Oct. 22) when they head to Salem State. The Owls resume competition on Wednesday (Oct. 19) with a non-conference game against Rhode Island College before returning the MASCAC play on Saturday (Oct. 22) when they are away against Bridgewater State.
