Lancers Shutout Pine Manor, 2-0

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University men's soccer team shutout the visiting Pine Manor College Gators 2-0 in a Tuesday evening matchup at John F. Coughlin Field.

 
 

With the win, the Lancers advance to 7-5 overall, while the Gators dip to 3-8-1.

 
 

The Lancers started the scoring in the 26th minute when Worcester State's defenseman, Matthew Dent (Ludlow, Mass.) put away the ball off a Noah Phelps (Attleboro, Mass.) corner kick to mark his second goal of the season. Phelps notched his third assist in the 12 games played.

 
 

In the first half, the Lancers outshot the Gators 9-5 and held a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.

 
 

Late into the second quarter, the Blue and Gold added another goal when Worcester's Mitzschael Myrthil (Clinton, Mass.) worked through the Gators' defense and passed the ball ahead for Bryan Brasil (Williamsburg, Mass.) to place in the net, progressing the score to 2-0 in the Lancers' favor.

 
 

Despite the outcome of a 2-0 win for the Lancers, the Pine Manor Gators fought back in the second half as they tallied five shots (three on goal) and held a 4-1 edge on corner kicks. The Gators' Samuel Solano (El Paso, Texas) notched two of the team's four total shots on goal.

 
 

Worcester State's goalie, Jason Barrett (Spencer, Mass.) earned the win in 85 minutes played, while the Gators' Oscar Estrada (North Port, Fla.) suffered the loss in a five-save performance.

 
 

Next up, the Lancers travel across-town to Becker College on Thursday (Oct. 20) before returning to Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play on Saturday (Oct. 22) when they face Salem State on the Vikings' turf. The Gators resume on Thursday when they host Lasell in a 3 p.m. matchup.
