WORCESTER, Mass. – On Monday (Nov. 7) afternoon, the National Collegiate Athletic Conference (NCAA) announced the field of 62 teams for the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.

The Worcester State men's soccer team earned a spot in the NCAA tournament after claiming the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) tournament championship Sunday (Nov. 6) afternoon as they defeated the No. 6 seeded Fitchburg State 4-2. This is the Lancers' first NCAA tournament appearance in the past decade, as their last one dates back to 2005.

Worcester State University (12-6-0) is scheduled to play the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Champions, Daniel Webster University (13-5-3) this upcoming weekend in Amherst, Massachusetts. The winner of that game will play the host and defending National Champions, No. 2 Amherst College.

Forty-two conferences were awarded automatic qualification for the championship. One team was selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions, as well as members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final 19 berths were reserved for Pool C, which includes institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that did not win their conference championship, and any remaining Pool B teams.
