WORCESTER, Mass. – Keene State's junior midfielder, Samuel Binogono (Manchester, N.H.) scored the game-winning goal late in the second half to give the Keene State Owls a 2-1 edge over the Worcester State Lancers Wednesday evening in a non-conference matchup.

1^ST HALF

Keene State started the scoring early when Promise Kpee (Manchester, N.H.) turned on the Worcester State defender and passed ahead to an open William Salta (Laconia, N.H.) who fired off a shot from 25-yards out central. The ball flew up and over Worcester's goalkeeper, Jason Barrett (Spencer, Mass.) for the 1-0 gain. 

The Owls possessed the ball for the majority of the first half, as every time Worcester received the ball in the offensive end, the ball was stolen away by Keene's defense. The Owls' defense only allowed the Lancers to take two shots in the first stanza - both of which were not on net.

2^ND HALF

Worcester State tied the game up midway through the second half when Obed Boateng (Worcester, Mass.) found the back of the net for his first goal of the season.  Boateng sent junior forward Bryan Brasil (Willliamsburg, Mass.) a pass to the left corner, from where Brasil then crossed the ball into the box. Boateng found a deflection off a defender and sliced the ball past Jason Smith (Gales Ferry, Conn.) for the 1-1 score.

Keene State powered back about 13 minutes later when Binogono scored following a cross from the right side from Donovan Harris (East Hartford, Conn.). Binogono's goal proved to be the game-winner, as the Owls did not allow Worcester another shot on net in the time remaining.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Keene State's attack was led by Salta who tallied six shots (4SOG) with one goal.
• The Lancers struggled offensively as they saw six shots from six different men on the field. The only shot on goal for the Lancers was the goal scored by Boateng. 
• Keene State's Smith earned the win in net, while the Lancers' Barrett was tagged with the loss as he made five stops in the 90 minutes played.
• Keene State held a 12-6 shot advantage throughout the game.
• Each team recorded one corner kick apiece.

UP NEXT

The Lancers are back in action on Friday (Oct. 6) when they travel to Bridgewater State for a 7 p.m. MASCAC tilt. The Owls also return to conference play on Saturday (Oct. 7) when they square up against Plymouth State in a 1 p.m. Little East Conference matchup.
