BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Worcester State University's senior defenseman, Matthew Dent (Ludlow, Mass.) scored the Lancers' game-winning goal on a header seven minutes in the overtime period to drive the Lancers to a 1-0 edge over the Bears of Bridgewater State Friday evening.

1ST HALF
Bridgewater State came out strong and fired off a shot just 12 seconds into the game. Filipe Gomes (Fogo, Cape Verde) followed with another two minutes later, however both were saved by Worcester's senior goaltender, Jason Barrett (Spencer, Mass.). Worcester State had a goal called back due to an offside call in the 35th minute.
2ND HALF
The Bears once again didn't waste any time as they registered the first shot of the second half just 47 seconds in. Worcester State battled back with three consecutive shots, though, one was blocked and two were shot wide. The teams traded shots throughout the remainder of regulation, but neither team was able to put a number on the scoreboard, which sent the game into overtime.
OVERTIME
Each team registered one shot in the first two minutes of the overtime period. Five minutes into overtime, Worcester State's Dillon Pooler (Southampton, Mass.) found the Lancers' second shot on goal of the game, though, it was once again saved by Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.). It wasn't until 6:34 into overtime that Pooler's corner kick found the head of Dent for the game-winner.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Dent's overtime goal was his second on the season and now totals six points with two assists in the book as well.
- Pooler tallied his third assist of the season.
- Barrett earned his fourth win in goal and second shutout, stopping four Bear shots on net. Morgado turned aside two shots in the setback.
- The teams were even in shots with 13 each. Four of the Lancers' 13 shots came in the overtime period.
- Worcester State held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks in the contest.

Next week the men's soccer team returns home and hosts non-conference opponents, Rhode Island College and Becker on Tuesday (Oct. 10) and Thursday (Oct. 12) before hosting MASCAC foe, Salem State, in an 11 a.m. MASCAC game on Saturday (Oct. 14).
