Worcester State Earns No. 3 Seed in MASCAC Men’s Soccer Tournament

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University men's soccer team has earned the No. 3 spot in the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's soccer tournament after completing the regular season at 9-8 and 4-3 in the league.

 

Leading the Lancers this season is Bryan Brasil (Williamsburg, Mass.) who finished the regular season with nine goals and two assists for 20 points. His nine goals were fourth-best while points were fifth-most in the conference. Worcester State's defense is controlled by Matthew Dent (Ludlow, Mass.) who also has made an impact offensively with five goals and two assists. The Lancers' starting goalie, Jason Barrett (Spencer, Mass.) helped the Lancers to four shutouts this season and stands at second in the conference in goals against average (1.16).

 

Salem State was tabbed the regular season champions, earning the top seed and a first round bye after going undefeated in the conference at 7-0. Mass. Maritime was the other team to earn the first round bye with a second seed in the tournament.

 

The quarterfinals begin with third seed Worcester State hosting Westfield State and Framingham State entertaining Bridgewater State both at 7 pm on Tuesday. The winner of Framingham State/Bridgewater State will face top seed Salem State on Friday, November 3 at 7 pm while second seed Massachusetts Maritime hosts the winner of Worcester State/Westfield State also at 7 pm in the semifinal round.

 

The winner of both semifinal games will face off on Sunday, November 5 at the highest remaining seed for the tournament title and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
