MASCAC Release

WORCESTER, Mass. – Five Worcester State University men's soccer players have been named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's soccer All-Conference teams, as announced by the conference Wednesday (Nov. 8) morning.

Worcester State's senior center back Matthew Dent (Ludlow, Mass.) was the lone Lancer named to the MASCAC first team. Dent was a force in the backfield as he helped the team to a 1.40 goals against average. He also helped the Lancers offensively and was second on the team in points with 12 on five goals and two assists. Dent assisted the Lancers on many scoring opportunities with his long throw-ins and also was found a couple headers off corner kicks this season.

The MASCAC named four men's soccer student-athletes to the second team: sophomore midfielder Momodou Kabareh (Braintree, Mass.), senior midfielder Etjon Rapi (Worcester, Mass.), junior forward Bryan Brasil (Williamsburg, Mass.), and senior defender Ryan Almeida (Palmer, Mass.).

Worcester State's Brasil led the Lancers in goals (9), points (20), and game-winning goals (3) this season. Kabareh and Rapi controlled the midfield for the Lancers this season, while Almeida started in 17-of-18 games as a defenseman this season. Rapi tallied four goals and one assist for nine points on the season.

Salem State, the 2017 MASCAC regular season and tournament champions, swept the major awards for this season. Freshman forward Maylee Malango (Lowell, Mass.) was tabbed both the player of the year and the rookie of the year, while the Vikings' head coach Matt Correia was named the Champion's Choice Coach of the Year.
