Men's Soccer Defeats Dean 2-1

WORCESTER, Mass – The Worcester State men's soccer team took home a win on Wednesday in a match against Dean College by a score of 2-1.

With the win, the Lancers move to 4-4-1 overall. The Bulldogs fall to 1-7.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring early, with a goal in just the second minute from Danny Isaksen (Cambridge, England) after Dean successfully pushed past the Lancer defense.

The Lancers would respond quickly though, with a goal coming off the head of Mitch Myrthil (Clinton, Mass.). Bryan Brasil (Williamsburg, Mass.) sent the ball down field, pulling the Bulldog goalie out. This allowed Myrthil to place a header right over the keeper's outstretched arms.

Brasil would add a goal of his own in the 39th minute. He pushed the ball into the box and his shot deflected off a Dean defender before finding its way into the back of the net to make the score 2-1 Lancers.

Worcester State took the 2-1 lead into halftime, outshooting Dean 13-4.

The Lancers were unable to capitalize on their couple of chances to expand their lead in the second half, but their one goal lead would prove to be sufficient.

Worcester State goalie Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) finished with two saves in the win. Dean keeper Bryce Antoch (Cranston, R.I.) ended up with the loss despite his seven saves.

The Lancers next match will be at home against Westfield State in Saturday with kickoff at 12 p.m. The Bulldogs will also play on Saturday on the road against Mitchell College at 11 a.m.
