Men's Soccer Shut Out by WPI

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of cross town rival Worcester Polytechnic Institute Friday evening at Alumni Stadium.

With the loss, Worcester State falls to 0-1-0 on the young season, while WPI improves to 1-0-0.

WPI scored two goals in each half to control the play. An 11th minute goal off the boot of senior Mark Calnan was all the offense the Engineers would need on the evening, but Jackson Conroy would add some insurance in the 21st minute to double the hosts' lead to 2-0 as the teams went to the locker room.

Less than four and a half minutes into the second half, WPI added its third goal of the match. Conroy's second goal of the game, coming in the 74th minute, capped the scoring for the Engineers on the evening.

Senior goalkeeper Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) made seven saves in the losing effort for the Lancers. Sophomore Iljant Cenolli (Korce, Albania) and senior Alfred Koroma (Millbury, Mass.) each recorded a pair of shots to lead the Lancers.

Worcester State will be back home on Monday evening seeking its first win of the season against Eastern Nazarene. Kickoff from the newly renovated Coughlin Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
