Men's Soccer Stymied in Double OT

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Worcester State University men's soccer team came up on the short end of a 3-2 double overtime loss to Mitchell College Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

With the loss, Worcester State drops to 1-4-0 on the season.

Trailing 1-0 in the 57th minute, Worcester State found the equalizer, thanks to a tally from Alfred Koroma (Millbury, Mass.). An assist was credited to senior Ethan Melia (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

With the score still level in the 84th minute, the Lancers tallied what appeared to be a dagger, as junior Lincoln Henry (Kingston, Jamaica) found the back of the net to give Worcester State a late advantage. The lead, however, was short-lived, as Mariner Bryan Ramos scored with 2:09 remaining to force extra time.

Each team recorded one shot in the first 10-minute overtime period, but neither team would score, forcing a second overtime period. The hosts wasted no time in overtime two, as Christian Barrales potted his second goal of the game just 11 seconds in to give Mitchell the victory.

Worcester State goalkeeper Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) was credited with the loss, despite making four saves. Worcester State outshot the Mariners 17-13, and led the corner count 8-5 in the losing effort.

The Lancers will return to action on Saturday for a non-conference road game at Dean College. Kick off is slated for 12 p.m.
