Men's Soccer Suffers 1-0 Loss to Salem State

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's soccer team was dealt its first Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference loss on Saturday, falling to Salem State University 1-0 at Coughlin Field.

With the loss, Worcester State falls to 3-6-0 overall on the season and 1-1-0 in the MASCAC. The Vikings improve to 5-4-0 and 2-0-0 in conference play. 

Salem State scored the game's only goal in 22nd minute, when junior Orlando Rodrigues got on the end of a Lucas Amaral free kick to deposit his first goal of the season. Worcester State outshot the Vikings 4-3 in the half, but the teams went to the locker room with the Lancers trailing by a goal.

Neither team found the back of the net in the second half, despite a 10-5 Salem State shot advantage, and the visitors came away with the win. 

Worcester State's Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) got the loss with four saves. Salem State's Christopher Jimenez got his fourth win of the season in goal with a two save shutout.

Next up for the Lancers, they will continue conference play next Saturday with a road game at Framingham State. Kick off is slated for 11 a.m.
