CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's soccer team played MIT to a 1-1 double overtime draw Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Steinbrenner Stadium.
With the draw, Worcester State moves to 6-8-1 on the season.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half, and it nearly took the entirety of the second half before the Lancers finally broke the ice. With 10:06 remaining in regulation time, senior Ethan Melia (Shrewsbury, Mass.) lofted home a shot from distance that appeared to be sending the Lancers to the victory.
Less than a minute and a half later however, MIT's Will Seiple headed home a Noah Faro cross to even the score at 1-1 and eventually force overtime.
MIT held a 8-0 shot advantage in the two overtime periods, but were unable to defeat Lancer goalkeeper Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.). Guilmette made two of his seven saves in the overtime periods to help the Lancers to their first draw of the season.
Next up for the Lancers, they will return to conference action with a Saturday matchup at Westfield State. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m.
