WORCESTER, Mass.- The Worcester State University men's soccer team edged out the Keene State Owls 1-0 on Senior Night Tuesday at Coughlin Field.
With the win, the Lancers move up to 8-8-1. The Owls fall to 12-6-0 on the season with the loss.
Prior to the game, Worcester State honored seven seniors, Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.), Jack Kellard (St. Albans, England), Kelvin Adu Ntoso (Worcester, Mass.), Ethan Melia (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Justin Echeverry (Methuen, Mass.), Obed Boateng (Worcester, Mass.), Alfred Koroma (Millury, Mass.) in their final regular season home game at Coughlin Field.
The teams were at a stalemate for the first half of the game. The Owls controlled possession taking ten shots, but the Lancers' defense held strong not letting any shots past them. Despite some strong opportunities the Lancers were unable to put any shots on net in the first half.
The 65 minute mark saw the best chance at a goal for Keene State when James McCully (Eastham, Mass.) took a shot close to net, but Guilmette dove in front of the ball stopping it from passing the goal line and kept the Lancers even with the Owls. Lincoln Henry (Kingston, Jamaica) took the ball down towards the net when Keene State's goalie, Anthony Pasciuto (Abington, Mass.) came out to make a save, but the ball rolled past him, but the Owls' defense stopped the initial shot from going in the net. Melia was in prime position though and crashed the net, putting the ball in with authority to put the Lancers up 1-0.
Worcester State goalie Guilmette was awarded the win for the Lancers, making an impressive 14 saves. Keene State's Pasciuto was given the loss, making one save.
Next up for Worcester State they will travel to finish their regular season against Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Bridgewater State on Saturday at 11 a.m.
