Gibson, Johnson Lead Men's Indoor Track At UMass Boston Open

Roxbury Crossing, MA --- Junior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) timed a pair of impressive finishes for Worcester State as he helped propel the men's indoor track and field team at the UMass Boston Open this morning at the Reggie Lewis Center.

The non-scoring meet was highlighted by seven postseason qualifiers and featured top flight competition from several Division II and III schools from around New England.

Gibson clocked a top finish in the 60 meter hurdles (8.10) and second overall in the 200 meters (22.52). His 60 hurdles split is currently the fastest time among those in the NCAA Division III on the opening weekend while his other time is an Open New England standard.

Senior Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) added his name to the list of Open New England names with his third place leap in the high jump (6-6.75/2.00m). Junior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) posted an ECAC Division III Championship time of fourth in the 400 (50.74).

Junior Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) also stamped his ticket to the Division III New England championships with fourth in both the 60 (7.15) and 60 meter hurdles (8.68).

Senior Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) added a DIII New England split with fifth in the 60 (7.17) and classmate Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) accomplished the same feat with seventh in the 60 meter hurdles (9.03).

Sliwoski was also third in the pole vault (12-7.50/3.85m) and Paquin wrapped up his meet with 12th in the 200 (23.28).

In the field, freshman Markiesh Harmon (Leominster, MA) rounded out the Division III New England qualifiers with fifth in the long jump (21-3.5/6.49m).

First-year Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) was sixth in the shot put as junior Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) recorded sixth in the weight throw (43-6.50/13.20m). Sophomore Dana Perry (Mendon, MA) also had a strong start to his campaign with seventh in the triple jump (38-7.25/11.77m).

The distance corps were paced by junior Patrick Bova (Princeton, MA) who notched 10th in the 1,000 (2:42.55) and classmate Wesley Hebert (Leominster, MA) who rounded out the finishers with 21st in the 5,000 (16:43.22).

WSU competes again next week at the Jay Carisella Invitational hosted by Northeastern University at the Reggie Lewis Center.
