Westfield, MA --- Freshman Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) has been named this week's MASCAC Men's Track & Field Rookie of the Week for his solid efforts this past Sunday at the Dartmouth Relay's.

Weeks placed 17th overall in the shot put with a toss of 44-7.50 (13.60 meters) to stamp his ticket for the Division III New England Championships on February 22. His mark was the fourth-best distance for a Division III competitor in the field that included several Division I student-athletes.

As of the current Division III New England Championship rankings, the distance by Weeks is the 11th on the list and fourth among those in the New England Alliance.

Weeks, who also played in nine games as a key reserve on the defensive line, helped the unit finish the year second in the MASCAC in sacks (21) and tackles for a loss (75).

Next week the Lancers will compete at the Tufts Invitational.
