Sliwoski Takes Home Seventh Place At URI Heptathlon

Kingston, RI --- Junior Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) settled for seventh place out of 11 individuals with 4,569 points on the second day of the URI Heptathlon this afternoon.

Sliwoski, who was the only Division III competator in the field, was just 48 points off the school mark that he set last season at the ECAC Championships held at the NYC Armory (4,617). Senior Nick Lebrun of Southern Connecticut won the event with 5,496 points.

For the final three events, Sliowski cleared 13-3.50 in the pole vault (4.05 meters), timed a split of 9.05 in the 60 meter hurdles and he cruised to a time of 3:04.20 in the 1,000. His standings in each event were a tie for the third-best vault, fifth in the hurdles and eighth overall in the kilometer run, respectively.

Yesterday in the first day, Sliwoski had the fourth-best long jump (6.22m/20-4.75) and shot put (11.90m/39-5) while he clocked the sixth fastest 60 meter split (7.49). His high jump was 10th in the final event of the day (5-10.75/1.80m).

Among NCAA Division III leaders, Sliowski is just 297 points off the leader, sophomore Kevin Wagner (Cleveland, MN) of St. Scholastica.

Sliwoski hopes to add his names to the list of heptathlon qualifiers as the field was expanded this season to include the top 15 point totals nationally.

The URI Heptathlon also included student-athletes from the University of Connecticut and UMass Amherst.
