Men's Track Places Tenth At Springfield Invitational

 

Men's Track Ranked 34th In Week 1 USTFCCCA Division III National Composite Index | Men's Track Slotted Fourth In New England Regional Poll

Springfield, MA --- Senior Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) cleared third overall in the high jump (6-4/1.93 meters) as he helped pace the Worcester State men's indoor track and field team on Saturday afternoon at the Springfield Invitational.

RPI edged Ramapo for the team win while the Lancers scored 20 points as a team.

Johnson beat out freshman teamate Markiesh Harmon (Leominster, MA) who placed fourth and stamped his ticket to the ECAC Division III Championships in the high jump (6-4/1.93m). Harmon, who also was fourth in the long jump (21-5.25/6.53m) was honored as the MASCAC Rookie of the Week.

For his efforts, Johnson earned Co-MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades for the second time in five weeks on the season.

Other solid performances included freshman Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) who had a toss of fourth in the shot put (45-2.5/13.78m) while junior Robert White (Ludlow, MA) marked up fifth in the weight throw (46-2.5/14.49m).

Senior Shawn McCabe (Mansfield, MA) just missed qualifying for the Division III New England Championships with seventh in the weight throw (47-2.5/14.08m) and ninth in the shot put (41-3.75/12.59m).

Sophomore Shawn Seamans (Newton, MA) was seventh in the triple jump (39-10/12.14m) and junior Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) finished seventh in the long jump (20-5.25/6.25m).

Fourth-year Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) paced the sprinters with 11th in the 600 (1:30.96).

At the Boston University Invitational, junior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) pulled off a solid double with 48th in a deep 200 field (22.62) and 63rd in the 400 (50.35). The times were fourth and 13th among Division III student-athletes in each race, respectively.

Next week the Blue and Gold will compete again at Springfield Invitational.
