Springfield, MA --- Junior Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) qualified for the Open New England's in the long jump (22-9.25/6.94 meters) and broke an eight-year school record to underscore four top finishes as the men's indoor track and field team took home first place at the Springfield Invitational this afternoon.

The Lancers tallied 130.5 points to outpace American International (105), Williams (89.5), Amherst (83) and New England Alliance foe UMass Dartmouth (82).

The Blue and Gold were also paced by junior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) who was first in the 60 meter hurdles (8.35), classmate Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) placed first in the 200 meters (23.11) while senior Steve Fleming (Ludlow, MA) tied for the top spot in the pole vault (12-1.50/3.70m).

Junior Robert White (Ludlow, MA) was the runner-up in the weight throw (46-6.75/14.10m) and the relay team of Gannon as the anchor, freshman Shane McKinley (Melrose, MA) as the lead-off, senior Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) and junior Patrick Bova (Princeton, MA) for second in the 4x400 with a time of 3:29.58. Gannon had an impressive 400 split with a hand-time of 49.70.

In addition to his solid performance in the field, Truong was third in both the 60 meters (7.07) and 60 meter hurdles (7.15). Truong's new long jump mark eclipsed the school record that had been set by Matt Leeds at MIT on February 18, 2006 (22-5/6.83m).

Paquin added several strong performances for WSU with third in the long jump (22-6.50/6.87m) for an Open New England standard, fourth in the 200 (23.42) and fifth in the 60 (7.15).

The 400 saw five place as McKinley, Barros, sophomore Benjamin Dussault (Assonet, MA), junior Shaun Corum (Billerica, MA) and freshman Isaac Ofori (Worcester, MA/North) all recorded third (53.19), fourth (53.29), fifth (53.95), sixth (54.57) and eighth (55.23), respectively.

Sophomore Jake Ferreira (Milford, MA) chalked fifth in the weight throw (42-0.75/12.82m) as White netted a point with eighth in the shot put (38-8.25/11.79m).

Freshman Markiesh Harmon (Leominster, MA) picked up where he left off from last week with seventh overall in both the high jump (6-0/1.50m) and triple jump (40-6.25/12.35m) before he registered eighth in the long jump to wrap up his day (21-0.75/6.43m).
