Westfield, MA --- Freshman Jared Barros (Taunton, MA) has been named MASCAC Men's Track& Field Rookie of the Week for his stellar performance this past weekend at the Boston University Valentine Invitational.

Barros placed 67th individually in the 200 meters (22.67) to qualify for the ECAC Division III Championships before he ran the second leg of the 18th place 4x400 meter relay team that clocked 3:22.09 and claimed the fifth fastest time for a Division III school at the meet.

As of Monday, Barros's season-best 200 split inched him up to 17th in New England and he is the top ranked freshman on the list. Entering the week of the MASCAC/New England Alliance meet this Saturday, the 4x400 relay is sixth in New England and second in the conference standings.

Barros's 60 from the UMass Boston Open on December 7 is 44th on the New England leaderboard and his 400 at the BU Terrier Open on January 24 is 46th in the region (51.48). Among first-year student-athletes he has the seventh-best 400 and the 11th best 60 split.

Worcester State makes a run on Saturday for their first-ever MASCAC/Alliance Championship which will be hosted by Southern Maine. Last season the Lancers placed third in the MASCAC and came in third out of 10 teams in the final Alliance standings.
